Discovering the Karst through wine and music: the Prepotto Festival, just minutes from Portopiccolo
Just a 15-minute drive from Portopiccolo, nestled among dry-stone walls, vineyards, and rosemary-scented trails, lies the village of Prepotto, part of the Municipality of Duino Aurisina. This charming corner of the Karst is home to one of the most authentic events of the season: the Prepotto Festival – Vitovska & Accordion, held on June 13 and 14, 2025.
The festival celebrates two symbols of the Karst region: Vitovska, a native white wine known for its mineral character, and the accordion, an instrument deeply tied to the cultural life of these borderlands, where music has long connected people across traditions and languages.
Osmize and Farming Tradition
One of the most unique features of the event are the osmize – rustic, seasonal wine taverns run by local farmers and winemakers. Osmize open their doors to the public for just a few days, serving homemade wines, cheeses, cured meats and pickles directly from the producer.
This tradition dates back to Austro-Hungarian times and today is a beloved expression of the local identity of Duino Aurisina, where hospitality is warm, genuine and deeply rooted in the land.
Program, Wineries and Useful Information
Venerdì 13 giugno, il festival si apre con le visite guidate alle cantine (prenotabili), seguite da un aperitivo musicale all’Azienda Agricola Lupinc con il Matika Duet, e da un concerto serale con giovani fisarmonicisti all’Osmiza Zidarich.
Friday, June 13, features winery visits (reservation recommended), a musical aperitivo with the Matika Duet at Azienda Agricola Lupinc, and an evening concert with young accordionists at Osmiza Zidarich.
Saturday, June 14, the day continues with more tastings and the Accordion Showcase, ending with two live concerts in the Gruden Residence garden, featuring young prodigy Lara Fortunat and the orchestras ALAMUT and GM Synthesis 4.
During the entire festival, Osmize Gabrovec, Zidarich, and Briscak will be open to welcome guests with a taste of true Karst tradition.
